Sealants on Six-Year Molars

As we all have heard, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure;” this saying is especially true when it comes to proper dental care. Sealants are a great preventive treatment for children. A sealant is a thin film of liquid that is applied, and then sealed to a child’s six-year molars. For children who have very deep pits or fissures in their molars, cleaning them properly can be very difficult because the tooth is harder to reach with the toothbrush. If a sealant is applied to the tooth, the molar is protected by decay that would inevitably happen over time of not being properly cleaned. A sealant is much more affordable than a filling and keeps the permanent tooth healthy.
